Framed poster or framed canvas: how to choose for your decor?
Share
You've found the perfect artwork for your living room, bedroom, or office. One question remains: should you choose a premium framed poster or a framed canvas? Both formats have their advantages, and the right choice depends on your interior, the effect you want to create, and your budget. We'll explain everything.
What is the difference between a framed poster and a framed canvas?
The premium framed poster
A framed poster is a print on fine art paper, usually a thick paper of 200 to 250g, white or slightly ivory, mounted in a wooden frame with a protective glass (often anti-glare). The result looks like a gallery piece: clean, precise, with faithful reproduction of colors and details.
The frame, in black or white lacquered wood, frames the artwork and gives it a strong presence on the wall. It is the ideal format for graphic works, illustrations, photographs, and reproductions of masters.
The framed canvas
A framed canvas is a print on fine art canvas, a polyester or cotton canvas, stretched over a wooden stretcher bar and framed in a matching wooden frame. The result is close to an original painting: the colors have a slight texture, the visual has relief and depth. No glass, no reflections.
This is the preferred format for abstract works, paintings, artistic creations that benefit from being viewed up close, with texture.

How to choose based on your room?
For a living room
The living room is where wall art has the most impact. We recommend a large framed canvas (20x28" or more) to create a focal point, or a composition of several smaller framed posters for a gallery effect.
If your living room is bright with many windows, a framed canvas (without glass) avoids annoying reflections. If your lighting is more direct or artificial, a poster with anti-glare glass is perfect.
For a bedroom
The bedroom calls for more intimate works. Medium-sized framed posters (12x16" or 11x14") are ideal: elegant, understated, and easy to hang without overwhelming the space. Calming themes like Japanese art or photographs are particularly suitable.
For an office or library
The office benefits from works that inspire without distracting. Premium framed posters in portrait or square format are perfect. Abstract works (Kandinsky, Klee) bring creative energy. Landscapes (Paris under the rain by Caillebotte, Japan Inspiration) open up the space.
For a hallway
The hallway is often underutilized. A series of small framed posters (5x7" or 10x10") in a horizontal alignment creates a very elegant gallery effect. Black frames on a light wall, or white frames on a dark wall: both work.
How to choose the frame color?
Black frame: it structures, asserts, modernizes. Perfect on white or light walls. It highlights colorful artworks and black and white photographs. Trendy and timeless at the same time.
White frame: it lightens, brightens, softens. Ideal in Scandinavian, minimalist, or bohemian interiors. It blends into white walls to highlight the artwork, or elegantly contrasts on a colored or wooden wall.
Our advice: choose the frame color based on your other decorative elements, such as door handles, lamp bases, and mirror frames. The consistency of metals and shades makes all the difference.
How to choose the right size?
A common mistake: choosing a size that's too small. Here are some guidelines:
- Living room wall: minimum 40x50 cm (16x20"), ideally 50x70 cm or more
- Headboard: 40x50 cm to 50x70 cm, or a triptych of smaller sizes
- Office: 30x40 cm (12x16") or square format 30x30 cm
- Hallway: portrait formats 20x28 cm or small squares 25x25 cm in a series
Our golden rule: if you hesitate between two sizes, take the larger one. Wall art that is too small gets lost on the wall and loses all its impact.
Our recommendations by theme
For a contemporary and graphic decoration: Arts-Lovers Studio creations in Pop Art or limited edition, as large framed canvases.
For a classic or Haussmannian interior: reproductions of masters (Caillebotte, Klimt, Kandinsky) as premium framed posters, black frame.
For a serene and minimalist decor: the Japanese Art collection as a framed poster, white frame, portrait format.
For an office or creative workspace: abstractions (Klee, Mondrian) or art photographs, square or portrait format, black frame.
